100+ year old golf balls 🤝🤝

c.1890 Painted Bronze Statue of British Amateur Ch

c.1890 Painted Bronze Statue of British Amateur Champion, John Laidlay.

Laidlay won the British Am in 1889 and 1891 (both played at St Andrews). His lasting contribution to the game of golf was his invention of the overlapping grip, which was later popularized by Harry Vardon. An incredibly impressive statue in person, measuring 16 1/2” tall and weighing 12 pounds. Signed by artist G Gonella of Dundee, circa 1890.
