1996 Copper Set (8 putters): Newport, Santa Fe, Catalina, Sonoma, Coronado, Napa, Del Mar, and Laguna. 1 of 500 sets produced, with all matching head covers.

Because of the extreme rarity, and their importance to the earliest days of golf, Square Toe irons have historically been among the most valuable golf artifacts. On the rare occasion that a Square Toe iron reaches the auction block, it has commanded a princely sum.

Offered in Lot 1 of our Premier Auction is what Jeff Ellis, the world’s leading expert on early clubs and balls, considers “a monumental discovery”. As Jeff lays out in the lot description and his accompanying research, he believes this specific Square Toe iron dates to the 1500s, making it the likely oldest golf club in existence.
