"Does a magnet stick to it?"

That was the curious question posed to us by Scotty Cameron supercollector Bill Vogeney when we told him that we were stumped by this putter. It isn't cataloged in Vogeney's 2001 book The Art of Putters: The Scotty Cameron Story, and no one else we contacted had seen this putter before.

If the magnet does not stick, "Vog" explained, this leads him to conclude that it is an early Stainless Prototype for Scotty Cameron's legendary Classic 1 putter. The Classic 1 is, of course, the putter that put Scotty Cameron on the map when Bernhard Langer used it to win the 1993 Masters Tournament (which led to Scotty's deal with Titleist).

Exactly how rare is a stainless Prototype for the Classic 1 putter?

Vog, who has unquestionably seen more Scotty Cameron putters than any collector on the planet, said he's "never seen one."
