Offered here is an 1870 long nose play club of John Allan, who was born in Prestwick, Scotland and was then the professional at Royal North Devon GC. This is an extraordinary example of a circa 1870 long nose club from a fine clubmaker. The clubhead is long and elegant (5 3/4"), and the club itself is 44" long. Bold "J. ALLAN" stamp on the crown. Excellent condition. 

This club originates from the famed Jeff Ellis Collection, and this exact club was featured in his books, The Golf Club (p. 51) and The Clubmaker's Art (TCA 1, p. 55; TCA 2, p. 79). This club has not reached the collector market since its sale at the 2007 Sotheby's auction of the Jeff Ellis Collection.
