Offered here is a historically significant letter from Ben Hogan to President of the PGA of America (and Augusta National Head Pro) Ed Dudley. In the letter, Ben Hogan thanks Dudley for his selection onto the 1947 Ryder Cup Team - Ben Hogan's 1st Ryder Cup Team selection.

In this letter, Ben Hogan makes revolutionary proposal - that the leader in Ryder Cup points be named Playing Captain. Hogan does this knowing full well that he himself is the current points leader.

We now know that Dudley must have listened to Hogan's proposal, as Ben Hogan was indeed Playing Captain in the 1947 Ryder Cup. That 1947 Ryder Cup was an absolute trouncing by the Americans, who won by the score of 11 to 1 at Portland Golf Club.
